Welcome to EDS

Our Training

When you are starting out, the quality of training available must be one of the things you look for. Training leads to new skills. New skills lead to more responsibility. More responsibility leads to more opportunities. But at every stage of your career, the spine of your development will always be the training you receive. Take a look at our comprehensive programme.

Steve Lockwood, Apprenticeship Programme Manager explains:

"What sets an EDS Apprentice apart is that you are an EDS employee from day one. Join us, and you are paid for the work you do, just like anyone else in the company. As soon as possible, you will attend an induction course where you will learn about EDS and the Apprentice Programme, Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR), NVQs & Technical Certificates at EDS. The course will also cover some key areas including: team building, customer focus, basic presentation skills, equal opportunities, health & safety, performance review process and compensation."

"You will then follow a structured training plan over the next three years whilst obtaining your NVQs level 2 and 3, by collecting evidence from the work you will perform. Your performance will be continually assessed. The training plan includes courses on negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, core business skills and an Outdoor Activity Course, as well as the technical skills required to do your job.

By joining the EDS Apprentice Programme you will be in good company as the Programme and many EDS MAs have entered national competitions with a high level of success and recognition over the years.”

Apprenticeship Pathways

The apprenticeship training path that you follow and NVQs you undertake will be based upon your individual role within EDS.

NVQs are nationally recognised competence based qualifications gained through work place assessment and training. They are regulated by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and administered by an Awarding Body. NVQs are achieved by candidates compiling portfolios of evidence of their work which are then assessed against National Occupational Standards (NOS).

The NVQs in IT are based on NOS developed by e-skills UK, through collaboration with employers, and cover a wide range of competencies required for roles within the IT industry. The “mix and match” approach allows you to obtain credit for all aspects of the work that you do in your particular role.

Some of the areas that our IT MAs work in are detailed below. You may specialise in some of the areas listed below and touch on others. We have a wide variety of different roles covering both technical and non-technical skills to take you forward in your career with EDS.

The areas you are likely to be involved in will be discussed in more detail when you come for interview. The EDS MA Programme provides you with an environment, and appropriate training, in which to develop all of the skills you will need.
